Junior Certificate School Programme (JCSP)

JCSP Cover 2The Junior Certificate School Programme is a national programme sponsored by the Department of Education and Science and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. It originated in the early school leavers’ programmes initiated by  the Curriculum Development Unit. Currently the programme is operating in over 240 schools throughout the country. Coláiste Eoin has been successfully running the J.C.S.P programme for a number of years.

The Junior Certificate School Programme aims to provide a curriculum framework that assists schools and teachers in making the Junior Certificate more accessible to those young people who may leave school without formal qualifications.

The programme supports the Junior Certificate and statements are achievable in all subjects.  Throughout their three years at junior level students are encouraged to take part in different initiatives.  This year Coláiste Eoin is taking part in eight initiatives, through these initiatives students will get the opportunity to design and create a pond in science, visit an art gallery, make a book and go on a field trip to mention just a few.

The JCSP programme is very successful and the students really enjoy taking part.  Our school is very lucky to have a wonderful library that the students are encouraged to use.  The library is also the base for our literacy and numeracy programmes.  Through these programmes the school aims to give the students the opportunity to improve their numeracy and literacy skills in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere.

The JCSP encourages young people to experience success and develop a positive self-image by providing a curriculum and assessment framework suitable to their needs. On completion of the programme students receive a profile which is an official record of their achievements  from the Department of Education and Science.
